From a buyers point of view the real estate market can be tricky. As a buyer you always want the best deal on the market for your money and the best service in the industry. Unfortunately there are some real estate professionals who have made a living by taking advantage of this. As a result real estate professionals have suffered the ill effects of stereotypes. You can even use the old saying "one bad apple will spoil the whole bunch". As a buyer ther are a few things that may help you on your quest to find the real estate professional who suits you.
A few basic things to think about are:
Communication:
Is this person willing to listen to what you have to say and your concerns?
(some agents allow the commission to ditate the service)
When is this person available to talk?
(some agents don't wish to talk "after hours")
Do they use their cell phone for work or do I have to reach them at the office?
(those that use their cell phone should be available at any time)
Do they have a direct line or a receptionist?
(a receptionist may cause you to leave messages)
Do you feel they are truthful in their ways of business?
(a professional holding the designation "Realtor" can be held accountable to a standard code of ethics)
Professionalism:
Is this there only means of employment?
(a second job may cause your service to suffer)
Do they seem well mannered and co-operative?
(it should never feel like a burden to talk to your agent)
Do they hold any special designations?
(there is a difference between a Realtor and an affiliate broker)
How long have they been in the business?
(this could be looked at in two ways, a long time may show experience or a set-in-theirway style,
a short time may show a lack of experience or a hungry nature)
Have they ever sold any home of their own?
(having personally sold their own home shows that they understand both sides of the coin
which could be helpful in the future)
Personal:
Do you connect with them on a personal level?
(your business will go smother if you share a personal connection with your agent)
Do you have similar interests?
(having similar interests will help you build personal bond with your agent)
Do you feel that you can work together to achieve the common goal?
(how you feel about your agent is probably the most important sign about how your experience will be)
Are they friendly?
(why use an agent who isn't friendly)
You agent is a reflection of you in sorts. Your interests become their interests and your goals become their goals. Why not find the agent that fits you best.
